The 2021 Health Normative Standards Framework for Digital Health Interoperability in South Africa (2021 HNSF) builds upon the previous 2014 HNSF and aligns with the National Digital Health Strategy for South Africa 2019-2024. It aims to establish an integrated information architecture for interoperability and secure sharing of health information across different systems and services in the country. The strategy recognizes the importance of standards and interoperability interventions and sets targets to be accomplished by 2024. The 2021 HNSF serves as a tool to guide the achievement of a fully interoperable digital healthcare environment in South Africa, superseding the 2014 version and outlining progress in advancing interoperability standards.
