National Non-Communicable Diseases Strategy

This national strategy focuses on the four major non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which cause 82% of NCD-related deaths: cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and chronic respiratory disease. The strategy also targets four common modifiable risk factors associated with these NCDs: smoking, harmful use of alcohol, unhealthy diet, and physical inactivity. While broader definitions of NCDs are recognized, the approach taken in this strategy prioritizes prevention, primary care, holistic approaches, and multi-sectoral participation to address the areas with the highest burden and greatest gaps. The strategy includes a roadmap, indicators, and a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess impact.
